The unexpected announcement by the Arts Council in November 2022 of £50 million worth of cuts to the sector was the latest in a series of funding withdrawals that have already deeply affected the arts scene across Greater London. As a capital and a global city, London serves as the cultural gateway to the rest of the UK for international visitors; therefore any cuts to arts funding are damaging not just for London but for the whole of the UK
