Further rail strikes mean more misery for London's businesses

Tuesday 26 July 2022

Richard Burge, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said:

“We are once again incredibly disappointed in the RMT, Network Rail and the Government for failing to avoid a strike that will harm the whole of the country. Strikes are a lose-lose for everyone involved and undoubtedly will disrupt businesses and the critical movement of people and goods around the country. In London, the effect will be felt most acutely by small businesses, the lifeblood of our economy, who rely on footfall in the capital from commuters and leisure visitors to stay afloat. With the rising cost of living, cost of doing business and rental prices skyrocketing, strikes are the final nail in the coffin and will only knock more of these businesses off the path to recovery. This summer of chaos must not be allowed to continue any longer and we implore the RMT, Network Rail and the Government to re-engage constructively and recognise the damage the present path will do to the country’s faltering economic recovery.”
