LCCI construction skills gap research highlighted in National Infrastructure Plan for skills
Commenting on Infrastructure UK's business publication of the National Infrastructure Plan for Skills, which identifies a 100,000 labour gap impacting the delivery of the national infrastructure pipeline, Colin Stanbridge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said:
"Our report with KPMG- Skills to Build - in November 2014 highlighted the major looming skills gap in the construction sector, which could potentially put a pipeline of £96billion of construction projects in jeopardy.
"The National Infrastructure Plan for skills quantifies the scale of the challenge across the country, highlighting that the skills issue is a pervasive one across the UK.
"We are pleased to see the Government now starting to listen, but the time has come for action to address the skills gap. Schools should be better incentivised to provide quality careers advice and skills funding should be devolved to allow the commissioning of local demand-led training provision."
