LCCI warn of 'perfect storm' approaching the capital
Thursday 10 December 2020
With the capital appearing to be set for Tier 3, and Brexit impact fast approaching, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the Government to show that they are willing and capable to help London and the UK weather the 'perfect storm' approaching.
Richard Burge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “From the data released today by Public Health England and media reports about the London MPs briefing, it appears that London is heading for Tier 3.
"Clearly businesses, particularly those in the hospitality sector, are hoping that next week’s data shows a drop in transmission. It is hard to be optimistic and sensible to be prudent.
“I welcome the Government’s commitment to rapid testing of secondary school aged pupils in the worst affected boroughs. Should London enter Tier 3 then the Government must work urgently with local councils to roll out universal mass testing which has been long promised and not delivered. We must get rates under control while ensuring effective business support for those affected.
“Covid-19, Tier 3 and Brexit impact look to be a 'perfect storm' approaching London and the Government must show that they are willing and capable to help their world city and thus the UK as a whole to weather it.”
