London Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls for new measures to tackle construction industry constriction

London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called for new measures to aid the construction industry and bolster confidence following the news that it has slowed, signalling the sharpest fall in momentum within the sector in seven years.

LCCI Policy Manager Emily Follis said: "Even before the referendum we were aware that business mood was affected and uncertainty was clear. We were not only facing a housing crisis, but there was a shortfall in skilled construction workers and a need for more affordable homes.

"Now it need is essential that we keep building the homes London desperately needs. There is no easy solution but government must look at cutting planning red tape, reviewing the status of poor quality land within the green belt and helping smaller builders develop smaller sites by creating a Small Developers Panel.

"In addition we need to ensure that the construction sector - and businesses across London - continue to have access to the skilled workers they need to succeed, which is why LCCI is calling for a new "London Visa" system".
