Roddy Caxton-Spencer climbs to new heights as LCCI Chairman

Thursday 23 January 2020

Risk mitigation professional Roddy Caxton-Spencer has been elected as the new Chairman of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

An Executive Director of Lloyd’s broker Besso Group, Chairman of its International division and responsible for its Overseas Operations, he has spent his career dealing with complex global insurance risks.

A Board member of LCCI since 2014 (and member of its Investment Committee), he also sits on the Board of London Scottish rugby club and the Court of the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars. Previously, he was Chairman of the charity, Arts 4 Dementia.

Having begun his career as a broker of “Jewellery, Fine Art and Bullion”, he has been a Lloyd’s broker since 1978, and joined Besso in 1997.

Roddy is also no stranger to managing risk in his spare time. Amongst his various achievements he has climbed Mount Everest, undertaken several Arctic expeditions, taken part in The Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race, and run several marathons including Marathon des Sable.

Mr Caxton-Spencer, said:

“At what is a crucial time for business in the capital and the UK, I am delighted to become Chairman of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

As London navigates the challenges and opportunities of the post-Brexit landscape, I hope to bring my global experience to the role and ensure that LCCI is offering the voice and services that businesses across all London’s boroughs require.”

LCCI also appointed Nish Kotecha as its new Deputy Chairman. Mr Kotecha is Chair of the London Chamber of Arbitration and former Chair of the Asian Business Association.

A seasoned entrepreneur, in 2016 he co-founded Finboot (and is current Chair) - a start-up offering a unique enterprise-grade suite of blockchain applications. Mr Kotecha was previously an investment banker at Sphere Partners, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan and BZW (Barclays).

Mr Kotecha said:

“As a long-time entrepreneur myself, I share LCCI’s passion for helping small businesses to grow and I look forward to drawing on nearly 30 years of experience in my new role as Deputy Chairman.

London is one of the world’s leading cities for start-ups and it’s crucial that we continue to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit for which it is known so that innovative companies can thrive, for the benefit of us all.”
